    Matthias is an Emerging Markets specialist who led more than 250 deals from across Asia as MD and Head of Debt Syndicate Asia-Pacific at HSBC prior to joining BVG.

    During his time at HSBC, he oversaw the underwriting of more than US$500 billion of assets and helped establish HSBC as the leading debt capital markets business in the region.

    Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 2009, Matthias worked at HSBC’s Emerging Markets team in London for four years covering the Middle East and Africa. After more than a decade at HSBC, Matthias left as a good leaver to pursue his interest in Venture Capital.

    As an active and successful startup investor on his personal account basis (backing 6 companies via 9 investment rounds and with one exit in the portfolio), Matthias joined BVG on a full-time basis in 2018, having been an active investor and mentor since inception.

    Matthias holds two Masters degrees, a Master of Mathematical Finance from the University of Toronto where he graduated in the Top 5 of his class and an MBA from the German business school University of Augsburg where he graduated in the Top 3. Matthias also secured a highly competitive German national scholarship to finance his Master’s program at the University of Toronto.

    Outside of work, Matthias is a world-class ultra-distance endurance runner and proud father and husband.

    Arshad has two decades of operational experience as a startup founder and operator with two exits. Arshad’s ventures include MetroNaps (the makers of nap pods used by Google, Procter & Gamble, and Cisco), InterviewJet (an e-recruiting service that introduces hiring managers to 3-5 candidates each week), and Power 20 (publishers of the Prenatal Workout, one of the top exercise apps for expecting mothers).

    Arshad is also an active and successful startup investor on his personal account, with more than 12 years of experience. He is an early investor in Pathao in Bangladesh, one of the country’s first startups to pass US$100 million in valuation, and Field Trip Health, which is listed on the Canadian Stock Exchange in 2020.

    He was also an advisor APH finance and RC ventures, a Hong Kong-based family office and a Bangladesh-based investment fund, respectively. As an advisor, Arshad leveraged his experience as an entrepreneur to identify, conduct due diligence and recommend investments for both entities.

    Arshad received a degree in Economics from Wesleyan University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.

    Arshad runs the HK Climate Adaptation Meetup and blogs about adaptation investing at Arshadgc.com. Arshad lives in Hong Kong with his wife and two children.

She brings a diverse set of experiences from working across multiple sectors, including venture capital (early and growth-stage), commodities, corporate social responsibility and wholesale manufacturing, working in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Jakarta, Singapore, Australia, and New York.

    Kai Lin holds an MBA from Columbia Business School with a focus in venture capital, entrepreneurship and strategy, and a BSc in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, with a focus in the economic development of modern China and Southeast Asia.

    Apart from her full-time career, Kai Lin is an amateur musician, 7-year Muay Thai trainee, certified archer, recreational diver and avid skier. She has also worked on various volunteer projects, including managing a project to provide educational tools to forcibly incarcerated children in Nepal.

Calvin joined Betatron as an analyst and has been with the firm since 2021. He is responsible for evaluating new investments, deal pipelines and fund operations. He is passionate about expanding his understanding of industries and technological advancements.

    Prior to Jenny’s move to Hong Kong, she worked for HSBC in compliance and operations. After her banking days are behind, Jenny moved to take a post as the office manager of a Startup company called Shanghai Pharma. As the proverbs saying goes "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".

    As much as Jenny works hard, she makes time for herself as well. Outside of work, Jenny loves to travel around the world with her kids.

  • Mr. Yip is a successful serial entrepreneur and founding CEO of 3 IPOs (2 Nasdaq and 1 HKEX). His family office is a venture capital & private equity arm investing in strategic industry & technology in USA, EU, UK and Asia.

  • Rahat started covering Bangladesh in 2004 for Prince Street Capital, where he led their investments in the Dhaka Stock Exchange and grew to be one of the largest hedge fund investors in the market. In addition to Bangladesh, he also invested capital throughout emerging and frontier markets with a focus on the impact of emerging technologies on consumer behavior. In 2016, he helped seed Pathao, a Bangladeshi ride-sharing/logistics startup. Previously, he co-founded TrinityVR, a virtual reality-based sports science platform for player development, scouting and analytics used in Major League Baseball. He was also the primary strategist at DKMS US, the American division of the world's largest bone marrow donor center, where he helped increase transplant conversion ratios for blood cancer patients in the United States. He serves as the Senior Advisor at Startups Next at the startup incubator for North South University, the country’s leading private university, and is the co-founder of B·deshi, an organization that connects promising Bangladeshi youths with successful professionals of the diaspora. Rahat is a graduate of New York University’s Stern School of Business, holding a degree in finance.

  • Danica is an Executive in Finance and Operations, currently on the Founding Team at No. 8, a newly launched consumer health company whose mission is to use scientifically-proven tools to improve a person’s mental wellness and daily performance. Her technical chops come from several experiences, starting in the Philippines where she is from. Working as an Investment Banker at Credit Suisse in Manila first, then eventually building her career with CS in Singapore specializing in Equity Capital Markets and completing over 50 equity deals during her five years with the bank. After banking, Danica moved to the US to complete her MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she served as the first Filipino President of the Student Government, in addition to being active in other organizations. Post-MBA, Danica joined as a Founding Team Member of Museum of Ice Cream, an immersive experience created around the universal joy and community that ice cream inspires. During her time at MOIC, Danica led a global team of over 300 employees in delivering a world-class ice cream adventure to over 1 million guests. While the pandemic temporarily closed the museums, Danica led the teams in new business development, including launching the company’s virtual experience business.

  • Thao Nguyen is a Senior Investment Manager at Ascend Vietnam Ventures. Previously she was an Investment Manager at 500 Startups Vietnam, where she was the junior lead of 13 investments and was responsible for portfolio monitoring, reporting, and valuation. Prior to 500 Startups Vietnam, Thao was with Topica (an Edtech startup backed by Northstar Group, Openspace Ventures, among others), focused on finance and fundraising, and Deloitte Vietnam.
